Steel building insulation is basically blankets of woven long-strand fiberglass that are laminated on one side to a vapor-barrier facing.  Facing materials are applied to fiberglass insulation blankets to serve as a vapor retarder as well as a protected cover over the fiberglass. This vinyl-reinforced backing is far more durable than vinyl alone.

  • A 3″ tab runs along the length of both sides of rolled-out insulation for easier handling during installation. You can request a 1- 6″ tab.
  • Double face tape and a patch is a standard inclusion on insulation quoted by building measurements. Quotes of a specific square ft or number of rolls, patch, and double-face tapes are added upon request.
  • Customers can indicate the cut length of their rolls.
  • Standard insulation width: 3′, 4′, 5′, and 6′.
  • Factory Steel Overstock standard quotes include a stronger WMP VR-R “PLUS” facing instead of the industry-standard VR-R.

Not all Fiberglass Insulations are the same

  • Fabric and Banding: Be aware there are insulation systems that are of low quality. Some sellers utilize fabric that is thin and cheap, as well as use plastic nylon strapping in place of traditional metal banding.  Most erectors will complain about this kind of banding twisting up on the screw as they try to attach the strapping.
  • Naima 202-96 compliance. This is an independent test performed by Home Innovations.  This test is the gold Standard for Flexible Fiberglass Insulation to be Laminated for Use in Metal Buildings. When the facing is laminated to the fiberglass it crushes the fiberglass.  The test ensures that after manufacturing the product unrolls to the specified R-value.   Some manufacturers do not want to pay for this test and say they do in-house testing.  In these cases, the product often arrives from these manufacturers with less than claimed performance.  Simply put, it means other insulation outlets, R-19 (6″) insulation may show up at the job site as 4″ or 5″ with a lower R-Value!  Our NAIMA 202-96 compliance guarantees you get the R-value you ask for.
  • Comcheck- Energy Compliance Certificate  COMcheck is a program put out by the department of energy.  This program models buildings in a compliance software to verify government energy code performance as it relates to insulation.  The certificate will specify a percentage equal to or better than code requirements.   COMCheck certificates available on request
  • Secure Price: Some firms will indicate that they have the option to increase the price based on insulation availability. This means these firms can process the order and then hit the customer with an increase at the last minute before shipping. At that point, the customer is stuck and may have to wait several weeks to get their insulation delivered if they don’t accept the price increase. A few steel building outlets are doing this same tactic.

Fiberglass R-Values and Wholesale Square foot Pricing

R-Value is based on measuring the amount of heat loss, or the ability to retard the loss of heat flow. Understanding the R-value with fiberglass insulation is easy: The R-value is directly related to the fiberglass thickness. The thicker the fiberglass blanket you have, the higher the R-value. Factory Steel Overstock quotes R-Value 8 to 30. The prices reflect true wholesale rates of insulation 4’/5’/6′ width blanket with lengths over 15′. The product has VRR+.

  1. You simply place the insulation roll over the top of the roof purlins and / or wall girts. This is done prior to the exterior metal panels being installed.
  2. The fiberglass rolls are essentially sandwiched between the interior metal and the exterior sheeting.
  3. The vapor barrier (usually white finish) is faced towards the inside of the building, giving the building a clean finished look. We always Re-enforce this facing so that our customers have the sturdiest backing. With a single layer application, you can achieve R-Values up to R-19, but not higher.
  4. The 3” tabs are to be rolled over and stapled. Orders come with double-sided tape for easy adherence to building, and a small supply of patch tape to assist with minor tears if needed

Reflective R-15.3 Insulation (White-Facing)

  • 4′ x 175′ (700′ per roll).
  • 5 mm thickness
  • Improve tear resistance
  • Flame Spread – ZERO
  • White “attractive” facing
  • Layered: Reflective reinforced foil + Polyethlene foam + UV resistant “white” facing

Insulation Layered

  • Reflective reinforced foil
  • Polyethlene foam
  • UV resistant “white” faceing

Comparable in price to R-17 yet with the FRESH OPEN LOOK of the white vinyl backing many customers prefer in the interior of their metal building.  R-Value is slightly reduced from 17 to 15.3 in this product due to the replacement of one side of polyethylene backing and reflective reinforced foil with the ALTERNATIVE UV-resistant White Facer.

Formal quotes will include double-sided tape for ease of installation.

Reflective R-17 Insulation

  • 4′ x 175′ (700′ per roll)
  • Adhesive along one side of the 175′ roll.
  • 5 mm thickness
  • Improve tear resistance
  • Flame Spread – ZERO

Insulation Layered

  • Reflective reinforced foil
  • Polyethlene foam
  • Reflective reinforced foil

It is lightweight and easy to install. The applied adhesive running down one side of each roll makes no need to order reflective tape to seal the seam.  This benefit can save up to 50% installation time. Those erecting buildings have noted its ease of installation as well as 50%-time savings.

Testimonial

I have been a part of two orders and am now working on my third order from Factory Steel Overstock. John Barber is always helpful throughout the entire process from start to finish.”

– David Muniz  30′ x 50′ x 16′ w/ R-22 Reflective Insulation
3/3/22

High R-Value 22 Reflective Insulation

  • 4′ X 85.3′ (341′ per roll)
  • 10 mm thickness
  • Increased R- Value
  • Added longitudinal strength
  • Improved tear resistance
  • Flame Spread – ZERO
  • Use a hot gun to melt the polyethlene foam at the edges overlapping rolls. Add mild pressure. This will create “very” tight connection!

Insulation Layered

  • Reflective reinforce foil
  • Polyethylene backing
  • Close -cell polyethylene foam center
  • Reflective reinforce foil

It is twice as thick as regular reflective insulation (10 mm) closed cell polyethylene foam covered on both sides with .00012 inch (0.03mm) aluminum foil facing. Its advantage is its high R-value, yet it is light and very easy to install.

Our High R-Value 22 has cuts at the edge to overlap the rolls. Overlap the rolls. Use a hot air gun to cause a welding process to occur. Simply add pressure and you will create an impermeable overlapped seal between the rolls.

There are four main reflective insulation products: Foil, Single Bubble, Double Bubble, and Factory Steel Overstock High R-Value (15.3, 17, and 22 when installed with an air gap) Reflective Insulation.

Reflective Bubble Insulation

Bubble insulation will offer some R-Value, a radiant and vapor barrier. Beyond this point, they have little in common with our High R-Value Insulation. You see, FSO’s insulation of polyethylene foam center keeps its shape when expose to numerous forces. This is very important! Under pressure, if insulation collapses, it loses its capacity to be an effective radiant and vapor barrier. With a 6-psi pressure, FSO’s high R-Value insulation only collapses 6%. Keep in mind, when the pressure is relieved, it fully forms back to its initial shape! This is not the case with Single or Dubble Bubble insulation.

Single or Dubble Bubble Insulation

This insulation is composed of air bubbles sandwiched between metal surfaces. Dubble bubbles simply mean a second layer of bubbles; however, we have found there isn’t much difference in performance between the two. Once a bubble is punctured it naturally loses some of its shape as well as radiant and vapor protection. Remember, all bubbles can pop!

Foil Insulation

Do you think that a simple piece of foil is going to offer much protection? I could elaborate, but common sense is all that is needed here!

What sets Factory Steel Overstock’s High R-Value Reflective Insulation apart is that it is LAYERED

The creases in the foil allow for additional air flow. Making it the highest reflective R-Value insulation in the industry!
